Technique: Maximum pixels from Mill Colour
Mill Colour by The Mill is a classic iPhone photo editing app. While it hasn’t been updated in over a year, this app is still useful, especially to owners of older iPhones. It’s very full-featured and powerful, especially for a free app. In addition to several preset photo effects, there are no other photo apps available that can adjust image qualities with the precision that Mill Colour can. Unfortunately, the app saves at a maximum 2 megapixel resolution — 1600×1200 pixels. The app has a glitch, so getting more than 1280×960 px output involves tricking the app a little bit.
With most apps, selecting full resolution in the app’s settings saves images at just that — the maximum resolution the app will support. The glitch in Mill Colour saves images at 1280×960 px when Full resolution is selected.
To get the maximum file size that Mill Colour supports, open your iPhone’s Settings app. Select Mill Colour > Output image size and change the size to 1600×1200 px. The app will now save up to 2 MP.
Hopefully this excellent app will be updated someday to fix this bug and to take advantage of the newer iPhone resolutions.
Mill Colour works on any iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch running iPhone OS 2.2.1 or newer.

Hi Marty,
I must admit that I don't understand : I use Colour Mill for a while now, and always thought it's a really good app (even if I prefer Film Lab when I have enough time to retouch my shot !). After reading your post, I have tried it again, and, using PhotoSize, look at the result : Colour Mill save my picture in high resolution, 1536×2048, the best I can obtain with my "old" 3GS…
Once again, I'm fan of your blog, which gave me the passion of iphoneography and spirit to launch mine, in french !
Long live to Life in LoFi !
Yann
Thank you, Yann!
I'll have to check out your blog. Please post a link. Google Translate does a decent job in converting to English.
