“Best Served Cold” — Shot With an iPhone 4 and FiLMiC Pro

“Best Served Cold” – FiLMiC Pro Action Promo from FiLMiC Pro on Vimeo.

Click the embed above to watch a short film — a fake action film trailer that was shot entirely with an iPhone 4 and iPhone videography app FiLMiC Pro. It’s a cool short film that does a great job of showcasing many of FiLMiC Pro’s capabilities. Honestly, it’s also better than a lot of the theatrical releases I’ve seen recently.

I’ve previously reviewed FiLMiC Pro. I think it’s the standard for iPhone videography.

Not only did they use an iPhone, but they used a wide range of support hardware while shooting, including a Steadicam Smoothee, Gymbl Pro, GorillaPod, Manfrotto monopod with a Glif, and an elevated skateboard dolly with 16 feet of track. Sound was captured to the iPhone primarily through laveliers connected to a KV connector. The Glif, Joby GorillaPod, and the Gymbl Pro by YOUBIQ are all fairly affordable camera mounting solutions for these types of productions.

While I doubt we’ll see any Hollywood blockbusters shot exclusively on an iPhone, with minimal investment in hardware, FiLMiC Pro seems like a good choice for shooting anything from hobby films, music video, or independent productions.

FiLMiC Pro is $2.99 in the App Store. Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi, and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G. Requires iOS 4.1 or later.
