To illustrate how far iPhoneography and iPhone photo apps have come, it’s been less than 5 years since Camera Genius, the first camera replacement app available in the App Store was released. At a time when Apple’s Camera was fairly basic, lacking many of the features it has now, Camera Genius was revolutionary. It introduced to the iPhone platform many of the features we take for granted in camera apps today.

Camera Genius has long been one of the premier camera replacement apps available and has all the tools needed to help take better iPhone photos. Its improved interface pioneered anti-shake stabilization, full screen Big Button shutter release, rule of thirds composition grids, digital zoom, full-resolution burst shooting and more. Most tools fly away in the viewfinder but are one-click away when needed. The separate focus and exposure targets are smooth and responsive. There’s great Focus Snap tool which automatically snaps the picture when the iPhone locks focus on the subject in the target. This is a great feature that helps reduce potentially blurry shots taken before the camera catches up to the shutter.
There’s also a nicely integrated photo editing suite built into the app with adjustment tools, effects presets, a collage tool and a selection of borders. It’s always good to see this app show up in my updates. Although it doesn’t grab headlines as often as other camera replacement apps, Camera Genius has kept up over the years and is a very good photo app.
