Some more photos I’ve taken recently. It seems this entry you get a gallery of two of my recent trips to Wisconsin.

"Milwaukee River at Night"

"Milwaukee River at Night"

Milwaukee, Wisconsin, August 2009
Shot with Camera Genius, unenhanced

It was a gorgeous summer night on Lake Michigan. We were waiting to board the boat on the right for a party cruise on the bay. I loved the soft light dockside and the way the two buildings on the other side of the river completed the scene. I love how the lights of the buildings stand out against the evening and how the different styles of architecture contrast each other, even at night.

The Train Garage

"The Train Garage"

Bay Beach, Green Bay, Wisconsin, July 2009
Unenhanced

One of two trains that operate at Bay Beach Amusement Park. We were probably walking where we shouldn’t have been and just happened upon this shot. I love the perspective and the lines of this head-on image and how the rails fade into black. You get little sense of scale looking at the image. And I love the splash of color — yellow and purple — in the locomotive.

"Bea's Ho-Made"

"Bea's Ho-Made"

Door County, Wisconsin, July 2009
Color tweaked in Photogene

Maybe it’s the 12-year old boy in me that found “Ho-Made” so amusing. Bea, what are you really selling in your store?

The afternoon sun made for some warm color and long shadows.

"Clark lake"

"Clark Lake"

Door County, Wisconsin, July 2009
Unenhanced

It was toward the end of a long day exploring Door County. We stopped by Clark Lake out of curiousity more than anything — kind of a “why not?” We pulled up to the put-in and there was one other group there with their dog.

“We can tie her up if she’s bothering you….”

“No problem. She’s okay,” we replied. I never caught her name. She never seemed to tire. And every time, she fetched the stick from the lake with gusto.

In this image, I love the clarity of the water and how the refractions play with rocks below. I love her determination as she swims away from shore and I love the shadows that the late afternoon sun cast across the lake.

Old, leaning, but not quite fallen. I stopped and turned around to photograph this old house. For me, the scene is full of life, contrasted by the old house which stubbornly refuses to fall.

This image was taken before I’d purchased many camera and post-production apps for my iPhone. I’d like to revisit this image, perhaps either pumping up the contrast, brightness and saturation, or by converting the image into an old monochrome or antique tone.

Midwest Airlines #2306, August 18, 2009

I’m not a huge fan of wing shots — the novelty for me wore off about 12 years ago. But in August 2009, I was flying a Midwest Airlines E170 and looked out the window to see this wonderful convergence of wing, sky and cloud, contrast, shadow and saturation. I promise it’ll be another 12 years before I share another wing shot — unless it’s heavenly.

Castle Rock, Colorado, July 2009.

As I stepped out of the car after a Saturday night in Denver, I saw the leaves from this tree catch the light from the streetlamp before fading into the dark night.

"The Toy Machine", unenhanced

"The Toy Machine", unenhanced

Oneida Casino, Green Bay, Wisconsin, April 2009

I found this fascinating mix of content and color within a toy “claw” machine. Most of the toys are fairly standard. I find the black bear with the baby face a little disturbing and out of place.

2MP image shot with Panasonic Lumix camera. Enhanced on iPhone with Camera Bag.

"Chicago Athletic Association", 2MP image shot with Panasonic Lumix camera. Enhanced on iPhone with Camera Bag.

Chicago, 2002.

One of my favorite pictures. He was moving slowly down Michigan Avenue. I snatched the shot just as he was passing in front of the CAA. The original image is full of contrasts. It’s mostly monochrome, with the only real color being the plants in the windows and the color in his hood. I like the contrast of color and gray and of common passes by wealth on the streets of Chicago.

This one was taken long before my iPhone.

The statue of Vince Lombardi in the front of Lambeau Field. I was moved by the light, shadow, reflection and lines when I saw this moment near sunset at Lambeau Field.
