360 Panorama is FREE right now!

Single-take panorama app, 360 Panorama by Occipital, is free right now in the App Store. This is for a limited time only, so grab it now. It’s from the same developer who created the excellent ClearCam photo app.

The app creates immersive panos – up to 360 degrees – in a single take. Past versions have been a little cranky for me, but when it works, the panos are pretty seamless and very cool.

I’ll create a prettier link when I’m back in the office. Until then, here’s a text link you can follow to download. 360 Panorama is available as a free download for a limited time.

Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi, and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.

The Importance of Safety Shots

I’m big on taking safety shots. Storage is ridiculously cheap compared to a few years ago. I’ve got plenty of room on my iPhone to shoot more images than I need. There’s no excuse not to shoot safety shots when the subject affords you the opportunity.

Hey, Montréal! See iPhoneography MTL at EM Café

Montréal, Quebec is a very cool city. It’s a gorgeous city with both old world and very modern charm. The people there are awesome. I caught one of the last Expos games years ago and didn’t spend nearly as much time there as I wanted to.

If you’re in or near Montréal soon, don’t miss another “expo” that’s showing there right now. A group of four iPhoneographers are showing works at EM Café now through September 30, 2011 – Roger Guetta (DraMan), Gerard Godin, Becki Becko and Isabelle “MissPixels” Gagné.

Photo App Review: REXiG HDR Camera – Good single-image HDR

REXiG HDR Camera
Version 0.7.3
Price: Free until August 18, 2011

Rating 4 stars

Bottom Line: I like it. It’s a good app. REXiG HDR Camera is one of the best single-image HDR apps I’ve tested and nicely enhances most images.

REXiG HDR Camera is a photo app that generates an HDR image from one image. It’s got multiple presets, but of the single-image HDR apps I’ve found, I think it’s definitely one of the better ones.

REXiG HDR Camera is FREE until August 18, but definitely worth a purchase after that date.

Pixlr-o-matic updated. Now supports full-res.

Pixlr-o-matic is a tough one to say out loud. It’s a one-touch (well, three-touch) photo app that turns pictures into cool looking vintage images. Simply choose from one of the many retro film effects, add a lighting effect, then select a frame. There’s no editing or other adjustments, but the effects created are nicely rendered.

The new 1.1 update now supports full resolution saves and makes the app much more usable to a wider range of iPhoneographers.

Photo App Focus: Shnap! brings some cool features to social photo

I’ve been using a fairly recent (released late May 2011) social photo app Shnap!. Lately, there have been a lot of newcomers to try and challenge the biggest of the social photo apps, Instagram. Shnap! is pretty engaging, has a great interface, a good gimmick, and powerful tools for a social photo sharing app. It’s a fun app. All that’s missing is millions of users.

BeFunky Photo Editor Pro on sale for a limited time

If you’ve had your eye on iPhone photo app BeFunky Photo Editor Pro but thought that the two dollar pricetag was a little steep for what you got, the app is on sale now for 50% off – that’s only $0.99.

I’ve previously reviewed the app here. I recommend that you read my review before purchasing – know what you’re getting. I gave it a median three stars in my review – not bad, not excellent, but good. BeFunky Pro has some good filters that are pretty cool, like the great pinhole filter. It’s a good, one-click processing app.

This sale is for a limited time only.

Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi, and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G. Requires iOS 4.0 or later. Check the compatibility of your device. The app isn’t compatible with many devices, including the iPhone 3G and 3GS.
