We take a look at iPhone photo app Nofinder

Although I passed on it when it was first released, here’s a look at Nofinder, a toy camera app that, as the name suggests, lacks a viewfinder. It also lacks flash, autofocus and front camera support. It’s not really a stealth cam, although it can be used as one. It’s a shoot-from-the-hip camera — just shoot blind without first being able to compose your shot.

Nofinder is not a camera replacement or an everyday shooter. Even the developer says it is not a “friendly photo app.” I think it makes a good “project” camera — an app you can use on a photographic mission to challenge yourself creatively.

iPhoneography: Faved On Flickr, 02.19.12

Here is the Faved On Flickr iPhoneography showcase for the week of February 19, 2012. As I look through the images each week –  and I look at each one — I’m always impressed with how great the photography is and how far iPhoneographers continue to push the art of apping and production. All this from a device that started out as a means to send snapshots by text message. Pretty impressive.

Once again, here are a small sampling of the week’s great iPhoneography submitted this week. Click past the jump for the rest of this week’s showcase. >>>

Cross Process 2.0 Update is in the App Store Now

It’s been a while since Nick Campbell last updated the app Cross Process for iPhone– over a year, in fact.

The 2.0 update of Cross Process has just been released. While light on new features, this is a good opportunity to revisit this simple, classic digital lo-fi photo app that adds very nice looking analog effects to your photos.

Hipstamatic’s America Hipstapak Available Now and Other HipstaNews

Hipstamatic 235 iPhoneThe new America Hipstapak is available now as an in-app purchase in Hipstamatic. The pak is $0.99 and contains the same lens and case from the now-discontinued Made In America FreePak as well as two new films. I got an extra week to shoot with the Americana lens. I would have bought the Hipstapak regardless.

And in the other big Hipsta news of the day, the Soho Hipstapak is being pulled off the Hipstamart soon. This is the first time Hipstamatic have deleted one of the regular Hipstapaks, so grab it now while it’s still available.

Cool Link: Three Free eBooks on Street Photography

One of the areas where the iPhone camera excels is street photography. The camera (the iPhone) is small, ubiquitous and doesn’t effect the subject the way a traditional DSLR or point-and-shoot can. It doesn’t look like a camera and can get into scenes that other cameras can’t.

There are many great street iPhoneographers shooting today creating classic works regardless of the camera used. This includes Sion Fullana, Anton Kawasaki, Greg Schmigel, Robson Santos, Dixon Hamby, Aik Beng Chia, Clay “Butch the iPhoneographer” Benskin, Hideous Manki and many, many others.

Thanks to the French website Nikon Passion, here are three eBooks about street photography that you can download for free. Two of the books are by Thomas Leuthard, a Swiss photographer. The third is by Alex Coghe , a photographer based in Mexico City. All three are in English and in PDF format.

“Whether you’re a fan of Street Photography – Photo of street or photo on the spot – or just curious to learn more about the practice of photography, here are three ebooks for free download. These documents are written in English, but they are highly instructive if you want to learn more about the practice of taking photos on the spot, in the street, in town or traveling.”

Here’s link to “3 free ebooks on street photography or photo on the spot” on Nikon Passion. Links to all three ebooks are in the post.

I’ve just grabbed these myself and haven’t had a chance to read them yet. Let us know what you think about them in the comments on this post.

Camera Prime 2.0 is Out – Now a “Freemium” Photo App (UPDATED)

What You Need To Know About the New Camera Prime 2.0 Update

camera prime for iPhoneCamera Prime is solid camera replacement app. In my original review, I said that “Camera Prime is a straightforward shooter. It doesn’t try to reinvent this style of app, but rather it takes what works from several other camera apps and integrates the features well.” It’s not an all-in-one, but a good camera replacement with an emphasis on capturing better photos. While not the most widely used camera app, it has mostly good App Store reviews and has a loyal following.

The Camera Prime 2.0 update has just been released. Among its new changes, Camera Prime has gone the “Freemium” route, much like King Camera has. The basic app is free but to unlock its more advanced features is a $0.99 in-app purchase.

Like King Camera, if you’ve already purchased version 1 of the app, you can get the update and the advanced features for free. Click on to find out how, as well as a few other things you need to know about the update. >>>
