ClassicTOY and ClassicSAMP Updates Have Updated iOS Requirements

ClasicTOY 6.0Don’t worry… this post will effect very few readers. If you use the excellent ClassicCAMERA apps from misskiwi, be sure the iOS on your iPhones, iPad and iPod Touch are up to date.

Recently ClassicTOY and ClassicSAMP were updated. They were both listed as a “minor update (just a few bug fixes)”, but I also noticed that both apps now require a minimum of iOS 4.2 to run. Previously, both would run on iOS 4.1 or newer. The ClassicINSTA apps and ClassicPAN Still work on the older operating system, but I would imagine that this will be changed in the next updates.

Unless you’re on a device that simply won’t run at least iOS 4.2, there’s really no reason not to update to the latest iOS (version 4.3.4 was just released). If you haven’t synced your iDevice to your desktop or laptop in a very long time, it’s always a good idea to keep your iDevice update with the latest iOS it will support. If your iPhone is jailbroken, you can update and easily jailbreak one of the iOS 4.2.x updates.

Preview of ClassicTOY’s New Scarlet Film

misskiwi’s ClassicCAMERA apps long been a favorite of iPhoneographers. Throughout all of the ClassicCAM apps, the quality of the filters is great. They are accurate renditions of the retro lenses and films they recreate.

Recently on the Classic Camera Facebook page, misskiwi shared a preview of the exciting new film “Scarlet” and the new lens “”Squara” for ClassicTOY.

ClassicTOY 6 Effects Grid

ClassicTOY 6.0Here’s a cool link. Reader Steve Lombardi has created a great effects grid showing the possible combinations of all the films and Overdrive filters available in ClassicTOY 6.0.0. A very handy resource if you already own the app. And a great way to see what ClassicTOY can do if you’re thinking about buying the app.

Here’s the link to the grid on Steve’s Flickr page.

ClassicTOY for iPhone gets an update and some great new features

New Fisheye lens and Overdrive feature

.

One of my favorite toy camera apps, ClassicTOY by misskiwi was updated Tuesday. ClassicTOY is one of the better toy camera apps available. By switching lenses and films, the app produces among the best recreations of seven different types of toy cameras. Switching out films allows produces very nice recreations of several film types. And the new “Overdrive” feature really enhances all of the the films and lens effects.

The version 4.0.0 update gets a new icon, some great new features and still works on any iPhone running OS 3.1 or newer. Some of the features are device limited, but no matter what model your iPhone is, this is still a very nice upgrade to an already great app.

iPhone 4: Photo App Compatibility Updates, 7/1/10

July 1, 2010 — Still kind of slow with the photo app updates. There were only a few photo app updates today, although I am excited about the Lux Deluxe update that came out today (the iPhone version of the game of Risk).

The big updates of the day come from Takayuki Fukatsu, the developer of TiltShift Generator. Several of his other apps got updates for iPhone 4 today, OldCamera, SepiaCamera and the popular ToyCamera. All three have been updated for iPhone 4, including full 5MP output capability.

Updates for the Classic Camera series from misskiwi have been submitted to the App Store, but still haven’t been released yet. And we’re still waiting on the new Hipstamatic 160 update with the great new features and bug fixes. Full resolution prints on the iPhone 4 and the flash/flash feature sounds really cool! It’s still in review and hasn’t streeted yet. Really. I just checked.

Go to Life In LoFi’s iPhone 4 Photo App Compatibility Page to see our entire list of photo apps and how well they work on the iPhone 4.
