UPDATE 02.03.12 @10:30 CST: After yesterday’s App Store glitches, I followed both app discounts and they remained free all night long. I felt confident in posting this discount that any issues were resolved. The three toy camera apps from MorokoshiMan, PICtone, INStan Pocket and CAMERAtan are FREE right now in the App Store for the next day or so. Each app is $1.99, so this is a total savings of about $4. This is s a great freebie.

The App Store description says until February 5, but because of recent glitches and timezone differences, don’t wait until the last minute — grab these now.

The three apps apply toy camera effects to your photos, but do it differently. CAMERAtan and PICtone support full 8 MP output of an iPhone 4S. CAMERAtan and PICtone are old iPhone friendly and will still work on any iPhone.

CAMERAtan has over 40 oddly-named, one-click toy camera effects, including Toy Storm, IcePenguin, Aurora, GoldLeaf and others. It also supports Photo App Link for sending directly to other PAL-enabled apps for further processing. There’s a Random button as well.

PICtone is more conventional in its interface and processing and helps to create retro analog effects and plastic toy camera aberrations. Effects are more user controllable. You can change the cross-process, add vignettes and light leaks to create retro-looking pics.

INStan Pocket is another toy camera app that creates analog effects. Unlike the the other two apps, this one uses a camera interface. Also, resolution tops out at 1200×840 pixels. It’s good for sharing online to Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and Tumblr.

Simply B&W from developer Mr. B. Ware is a simple, easy to use monochrome conversion app you can use to make black & white photos that pop. It’s FREE right now in the App Store, down from $0.99. Grab it now. This discount is for a very limited time only — through until this Sunday.

I’ve featured Simply B&W in My Camera Bag post — it’s an excellent app that’s  a staple in my tool box. This universal app — works natively on both iPhone and iPad — supports a maximum resolution of 3264×3264 pixels.

This discount is to celebrate the anniversary of Mr. B. Ware. Mr. B. Ware’s Pixel It app is also free until Sunday. From the developer’s Twitter stream, “One year ago today I started work on my first iOS app and MrBWare was started. Thanks for all the support this past year.”

Snapseed is a powerful image editor that gives you overall and selective control over your image adjustments. There is also a good selection of preset filter effects.

The interface has been redesigned from scratch for the gesture-based iOS. It takes a little getting used to, but once you do, you can move through the tools pretty quickly. I think one of Snapseed’s best features (and one of its unique ones) is the selctive adjustments where you can drop a pin on the image and adjust only the area around the pin.

Snapseed supports up to 6.25 MP on an iPhone 3GS and up to 16 MP images for iPad 2 and iPhone 4, 4S.

This is a huge freebie and big savings. Again, no word on how long this will last. The price will probably go back up very, very soon, so grab it now.

FiLMiC Pro recently added the ability to film in 1080p on iPhone 4S devices, cementing its place as the premiere cinematographer’s iPhone app. One of the many great features about the app is its ability to change resolution. HDR Fusion

HDR Fusion is Cogitap’s foray into the third-party HDR market. It’s a full-blown HDR app which takes the two bracketed images and then merges and aligns them in-app. I haven’t reviewed the app, but the results are different than any other HDR app available. Color processing seems to be a little more vibrant than TrueHDR’s natural mode, but not at vibrant as ProHDR. Saves at full device resolution. It’s been averaging 4-star reader reviews in the App Store. Based on my initial tests, it’s fast, easy and solid and produces good HDR color.

At its normal price of $0.99, it’s inexpensive enough to warrant a look if you shoot HDR. It’s an excellent download for free and this is a great opportunity to try the full version of the app.

You also might want to check out Cogitap’s other HDR photo app, the excellent Bracket Mode ( ). All it does is quickly grab two bracketed images and saves them to your camera roll, letting you get back to shooting quicker.

HDR Fusion works on any iPhone or iPod Touch 4th Gen that’s running iOS 4.2 or newer.

Halftone is the app from Juicy Bits that recreates the printed, aged, halftone feel of old comic books. I’ve tried a lot of the halftone-style apps in the App Store, but Halftone is the best app I’ve found so far for recreating pulpy, comic book-style images — regardless of resolution. Having is wireless photo transfer app is a great convenience that you didn’t know you need until you have it… then it’s one of those things that you wonder how you got along without.

Scotty “beams” photos and videos from your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to your Mac over Wi-Fi. No cables, internet connection, browser or emails with attachments required. All you need is a Wi-Fi connection to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac. All photos and videos that are available in the standard Photos app can be transferred with Scotty.

Artify by Kodama Studios is free for today, Saturday, May 14! It normally sells for $1.99 in the App Store.

I downloaded the app. It’s easy to use Artify for one-touch “art” inspired by three classic painting styles. The app is very easy to use, but also has a good editing toolset to really tweak and customize the effects. It supports full 5 MP resolution on an iPhone 4.

At this time, it’s limited to only three relatively similar styles, but this free download gets you into the upgrade path. I prefer the variety of styles and the level of detail in AutoPainter or the JixPix painting apps, but Artify saves in full-resolution, is very fast, and “paints” in styles not really found in either of those two apps.

The App Store description says “Free for 24 hours only with Free App Magic by MagicSolver” but I had no problems downloading for free using the normal links. This freebie will disappear fast — within a few hours, so grab it now!
