Cool Link: TIFF celebrity portraits by Hipstamatic and an iPhone

Dangerous Method star Keria Knightly. (CP/Chris Young)

Who says the iPhone can’t be taken seriously as a camera? With recent combat photography making news, that argument has already lost a lot of its momentum. Now, Canadian Press photographer Chris Young has been making the rounds at the Toronto International Film Festival and got some great portraits of some of the celebrities there using Hipstamatic and his iPhone.

MetroNews in Canada recently posted 15 of them. Director David Cronenberg looks great in the stark monochrome of BlacKeys. Here’s the link to the entire gallery on MetroNews.ca, “In Pictures: TIFF celebrity portraits by Hipstamatic and an iPhone

Hipstamatic Never Goes On Sale But Is On Sale Now For A Few Hours!

Hipstamatic for iPhone, iPhoneographyHipstamatic never goes on sale. It doesn’t need to. It’s already hugely popular and is always at or near the top of the App Store’s Photography apps charts. But right now, Synthethic is having a Flash sale on the app for a few hours only this Friday evening. Hipstamatic is on sale now for only $0.99 – that’s $1.00 off the normal price for the standard gear. It’s like getting one of the in-app HipstaPaks for free.

If you’re new to iPhoneography and don’t already have Hipstamatic or if you’ve somehow otherwise managed to last this long without succumbing to Hipstamatic’s siren’s song, this is the best price you’ll see on the app. Hipstamatic sales are very, very rare and this one will be gone in a few hours. Grab it now.

Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi, and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G. Requires iOS 3.1 or later (still old iPhone friendly!).

It seems the app grabs images from Flickr groups, specifically Hipstamatic-oriented Flickr groups and uses the photos to illustrate Hipsta’s various films. The apps developer is neither paying for providing attribution for the photos, which despite the developer’s claims, may violate the Creative Commons licensing on many images.
