Cool Link: iPhone 4 Blueprint Wallpaper

Since posting screenshots of my iPhone 4S on my most recent “My Camera Bag” page, I’ve had several requests about the Blueprint background wallpaper I use on my iPhone. While not iPhoneography-related, I’m sharing it here.

On your iPhone, simply tap and hold on the image above to save it straight to your camera roll at full size. Or, on your desktop or laptop, right-click to save it to your computer. Email it to yourself and save it to your iPhone. The file is full size at 640×960 pixels and should look great as the background on any iPhone or iPod Touch.

According to Beautiful Pixels, the Blueprint wallpaper was created by Brad Hellyar. They’ve also got several other really cool wallpapers to download here.

Why I Always Use a Case on My iPhone 4

iPhone 4 lens micro-scratch

iPhone 4 lens micro-scratch

I have both an iPhone 4 and 4S. Some people prefer to use their iPhone 4 models without a case… “naked.” Others like the protection and look that a good case adds.

I’m a case guy. While the iPhone 4S is designed to take real world bumps and scrapes, I prefer the protection that a good case offers. If you use a “naked” iPhone 4 or 4S, chances are good that your back lens cover has micro-scratches. How do I know? I found out the hard way.

iPhoneographer Kevin Buchanan is an intersting and creative Fort Worther. I had been reading his blog FortWorthology for years before we finally met this year at a local showing of his iPhone photography. Kevin has also had some of his photos selected for our regular “Faved On Flickr” feature as well.

Kevin recently reviewed two accessories for iPhoneographers — the POPA shutter release and the popular Olloclip, both for the iPhone 4 and 4S. Click past the jump for my thoughts and for a link to the review on Kevin’s blog. >>>>

Holiday Gift Guide: Give (or Get) the Gift of Lenses – iPro Lens System

iPro Lens System for iPhone 4 iPhone 4S iPhoneography

If you find yourself wanting a wider field of view from your iPhone’s camera, the iPro Lens System (iPro Lens website link) is a combination wide angle + 165° fish eye and iPhone 4/4S case system. The wide angle lens adds over 40% to your iPhone 4 or 4S’ field of view. The 165° fish eye lens creates that unique fish eye distortion and grabs more available image than any “fish-eye” photo app can.

The iPro Lens System is worth a look and definitely worth adding to your holiday wish list.

Holiday Gift Guide: HipstaCase 100 – Half Off This Weekend Only!

It’s been two years since Hipstamatic was released in the App Store. Whether it was the brilliant marketing — the “revival” of a mythical prototype toy camera from the early 1980′s, the Hipstamatic 100 — or the fact that the app creates lush, great looking unique effects, Hipstamatic has spent most of its time in the App Store fighting sharing the #1 spot with Camera+ and Color Splash in Paid Photo Apps.

Earlier this year, Synthetic Infatuation teamed up with iPhone case maker Agent18 to manufacture the HipstaCase 100. The case gives your iPhone 4 or 4S the appearance of a “real life” Hipstamatic toy camera.

The case is on sale through the weekend. Click past the jump for more info and the promo code needed for the discount. >>>>

FiLMiC Pro Brings Pro Video Features to the iPhone

We usually don’t cover iPhone video apps here on Life In LoFi, but Cinegenix have just released a pretty cool new camera app that I’m pretty excited about. It’s a video app that brings professional features to iPhone video.

iOS iPhone Photo App Compatibility Grid

Updated regularly

iPhone 4iOS 4.3 hit iTunes today and with it another class of iPhones has been end-of-lifed. The iPhone 3G is no longer officially supported by iOS updates and iOS 4.2 is the end of the line for this device.

Life In LoFi has created this updated, searchable grid listing the latest version number and minimum iOS requirements of popular photo apps (and even a few obscure ones). The database also lists the maximum output resolutions and if there are any other known issues with the app. It’s a good reference to check the resolution of iPhone photo apps to see which ones save at full res and which ones don’t.

See how your favorite apps fare below, after the jump. >>>

The biggest iPhoneography news of 2010

2010 was a breakthrough year for iPhoneography. It’s been an exciting year and a lot has happened.

To put it all into perspective, exactly one year ago, the iPhone 3GS was the top of the line and most of us were still shooting with the old lo-fi iPhone 2G or 3G cameras. CameraBag and ColorSplash were still many iPhonegraphers’ go-to apps. Before Iris and PhotoWizard-Editor, there were only two combatants in the photo editor app wars — Photogene and PhotoForge. Remember that Photogene was winning? Hipstamatic had just been released and was just being discovered by the iPhoneography community. And display of iPhone photography was mostly limited to Flickr and Facebook.

A lot has happened over the year. The community has grown. We are drawn together from the online world and many of use have since met in the real world. There are a lot more people taking pictures with their iPhones now and a lot more creating art. Here’s my rundown of the biggest iPhoneography news stories of 2010. If I missed any, tell us yours in the comments below.
