Red Giant’s Movie Looks HD App is FREE Right Now!

I like Red Giant’s photo apps. I’ve previously reviewed both Plastic Bullet Camera and Noir Photo and think both are great photo apps.

To celebrate the Original iPhone Film Festival, Red Giant’s video effects app Movie Looks HD is free from August 23rd to September 1st! It applies cinema style effects to your videos but with the texture and quality that you expect from a Red Giant. Click past the jump for links. >>>>

App Review: Noir Photo

Noir Photo
Version 1.0
Price: $2.99

Rating 3 1/2 stars

Bottom Line: Nice monochromes, great vignettes. A good app to have, but not essential at this premium price.

Noir Photo is a new app from Red Giant Software, the developer of Plastic Bullet Camera. Noir lets you convert your images into luscious, classic, cinematic black & white and then adjust the vignette to “light” the image or draw attention to one element of the photo.

It’s a fairly simple app that can be used to create classic-looking monochromes. It’s easy to use with few controls. That’s both a strength and weakness of the app.

Price Drop: Plastic Bullet is Free For a Limited Time!

Plastic Bullet 1.2 toy camera iPhone photo appPlastic Bullet is a toy camera app that applies random variations of saturation, blur, light leaks, color shifts and vignetting to create the sort of “happy accidents” that contributed to the popularity of Lomography. It usually sells for $1.99, and occasionally goes on sale for $0.99.

My one complaint is that if you import a square format photo it crops it to the standard 4:3 iPhone aspect ratio. If Red Giant Software fixes this issue, it will be one of my go-to apps.

UPDATE: Post now includes info about Red Giant’s International Plastic Bullet Photo contest. =M=

I don’t get all the commotion over at iTunes about some band that hasn’t released a new album together in over 40 years….

Okay, enough with the sarcasm. Actually, with all of the hoopla surrounding the cool release of The Beatles’ catalog on iTunes (Go Apple — both of them!), some of the other happenings in the App Store may have been overlooked, including the release of some new app updates. Plastic Bullet Camera 1.2 is one of those apps.

To celebrate the update, Red Giant, the developer of Plastic Bullet are giving away an iPad.

Review: Lomora 2 is an improvement. Now the app is just okay.

Lomora 2
Version 2.0
Price: $2.99

Rating 3 stars

Bottom Line: Lomora 2 is an improvement over previous versions of the app, but a little slow and buggy and a little pricey at $2.99

Lomora 2 is the latest version of the LOMO app from Marvin Lee. It replicates analog cross-processing to apply colorful and vivid LOMO effects to photographs. This new version 2 is an improvement over previous versions, but it’s still a little pricey when compared to other, more-versatile LOMO-style apps. While this new version is moving the app in the right direction, there’s still lots of room for improvement.
