One of my faves got a good update and a new icon yesterday. The ProCamera 2.8 update by daemgen.net was released yesterday and it is one of very few camera replacements apps that is fully iPhone 4 compatible on its own terms — in fact, as of this writing, I can only think of one other, Camera+.
Read on for a list of the updates and fixes in this new version. >>>
I love my new iPhone 4. The device itself is fast and solid. Upgrading from my old 2G was amazingly easy and nearly all of my apps play nice with the new phone. However, I’ve been experiencing an issue when using some non-Apple camera apps on the iPhone 4. The screen locks up on the black closed shutter if the app uses the built-in flash. See the above image for the “Shutter Bug”.
ProCamera Basic by Daemgen.net is available once again for free for a limited time — down from $1.99.
ProCamera Basic is an excellent camera replacement. I’ve been using the full-version, ProCamera, as my camera replacement app of choice for the the last couple of revisions. ProCamera Basic is a full-featured camera — anti-shake with three settings, composition gridlines, full-resolution 5X digital zoom, Big Button full-screen shutter, and adjustable timer are just some of the features in Basic. Some of the missing features that the full version has are 3G tap-to-focus, video capabilities and the virtual horizon.
The ProCamera apps are among the premier camera replacements in the App Store, becoming the standard to beat for price and features. Usually these freebies go away fast, so grab it while it’s free.
Just an apped-up diversion which started as a zoomed image from our seats near the back row of a recent Jeff Beck / Gary Hoey concert. Inspired by Spaten.
A while back, I promised a full review of a previous update of ProCamera. I’m glad I waited until now.
In my idea box of articles I want to write is one for a “FrankenCam” app. For a long time, all of the features that I wanted in a camera app were spread out across several camera apps. I wanted to write an article — more like a wish list to developers — of the features that I wanted in one camera app.
I no longer need to write that article. The new 2.7 update of ProCamera by daemgen.net now includes every feature that I want that’s allowed by Apple in an iPhone camera app… and a whole lot more.
This updated Camera Bag post will also go in the navbar above. I wanted to share the evolution of my iPhone. You can read my original Camera Bag post here.

The best camera is the one that’s with you and the one that’s with me nearly all the time is my first generation 8 GB iPhone 2G.
I don’t use one app exclusively to shoot with. I have several and try to match up the image with the app. One of the features that makes the iPhone camera unique is the availability of thousands of photography-related apps. For less than the cost of a DVD, you can basically get a whole new camera experience.
iPhone apps are constantly being created, updated and improved. Since I first wrote my original Camera Bag post, several new apps have been released and several apps have been improved to the point where they have leapfrogged ahead as far as functionality and performance.
I find myself shooting with many different apps than the first time I wrote about my iPhone’s camera bag. Here’s my updated toolbox — the go-to apps I’m currently using.
There’s a giant, dirty, old screen just west of downtown Fort Worth. There used to be two more screens nearby. Weeds and bushes had reclaimed the parking areas. The trees had overgrown the screens. The once-white screens were dingy and filled with rust stains. None of the screens were even worth tearing down.
Hidden in the trees and the brush off Riverside Drive, the Meadowbrook Drive-In marquee still stands. The lights long dimmed and broken out. Even the last pain has peeled off, revealing the original theater sign underneath. An old bicycle has been rigged to the top. The drive-in behind is now a parking lot for trash dumpsters.
No parking. No trespassing. No movies. The one remaining screen west of downtown now stands silently in the trees.

The ProCamera apps have become some of the premier camera replacements in the App Store, becoming the standard to beat for price and features. This is a great chance to grab one of the better camera apps available while it’s free.
Long before the App Store, Snapture by SnaptureLabs was the premier camera app for jailbroken iPhones. Even back then, Snapture had features that camera apps in The Store are only now catching up to. Of course, being free at the time of the constraints of Apple’s approved APIs probably helped. My friends were jealous of the true digital zoom and the level guide that I was able to use in my camera.
ProCamera by Daemgen.net got a really nice update to version 2.5 today. The update features several significant improvements and adds several new features.
For the first time, ProCamera now has full-res 5X digital zoom, not just in-app cropping! This can be toggled from the app’s settings — I believe this is the only app that gives you the choice. Very nice! Image save speed seems faster than previous versions.
I’ll post my full review of the new version soon. They did a great job on this update! If you’re looking for a camera replacement app and like the features ProCamera lists, the app is rock-solid, well-implemented and worth $2.99 USD. Definitely recommended!
