If you’re in Seattle this weekend, check out the opening of Remelt – Redux, a group show at Rung Studio. The opening reception is this Saturday, August 14 at 6:00 PM. The public is invited to attend.

The show features several photographers, painters and 60 iPhone photos from Seattle-based iPhoneographer Dixon Hamby, who has the only iPhoneography in the show.

From the press release:

An art benefit for the support of the Capital Hill Alano Club will be opening Saturday August 14th at Rung Studio Gallery at 1136 Albro, in Georgetown. Opening is from 6 til 9 pm, and a group show includes photography by Ezekiel Nolan Gray, Dixon Hamby, Larry Darrah, and Lisa Raimondi; encaustic painting by Patti Bowman; and installation sculpture by Jack Strubbe, who curated the show and will be assisting in setting up an online art sales support thru Facebook for the club. Music for the evening will be furnished by composer/performer James Roth, who will also be presenting a musically focused evening later in the month, as well as work by Mr. Gray during the opening. More information can be found on Rung Studio Facebook site, which will also have information for the eventual organization of the online sales benefit site for the club, under separate administration. Plan on attending, and this opening will be alcohol free in respect to members of the Alano Club attending.

The Rung Studio show is the first time any iPhoneography has been shown in a gallery in Seattle, despite the fact that photographer and one of iPhoneography’s first rock stars Chase Jarvis lives in Seattle. Chase published a book of his early iPhone photography called “The Best Camera is the One That’s With You” — the title of which has become a mantra for iPhoneographers.

Dixon Hamby’s work has been displayed on premier photoblogs all over the web. He also has had his works shown in the world’s first brick and mortar iPhoneography exhibit “Pixels at an Exhibition: The Giorgi Gallery Show”. Recently, Dixon’s photography has also been shown in Berlin as part of the recent EYE’EM Exhibit of mobile phone photography.

One of Dixon’s photographs, “It’s You U2″ is a personal favorite of mine and is among the images displayed at the Rung Studio show.

Rung Studio is in the Georgetown area of Seattle.

October 2-5, 2009

Seattle has some great little bars. There are new bars made to look old and there are old bars that feel lived in — bars that feel like the family that hasn’t moved in 20 years and has this great eclectic collection of stuff – mementos of the people who’ve walked through the doors. There is some cool neon throughout the city from the new/old divey bars to the genuinely old dives. And if you let yourself, you can find some great images, friends and memories in these places.

October 2-5, 2009

In Seattle, some of the things I saw, while gorgeous in their color and saturation, took on an entirely different feeling once that element was stripped out and the images were reduced to their essentials in black and white. “Barstools…” evokes a much grittier feeling when the color is stripped away. It has a feeling of the smoky, dusty early 60′s dive bars. The Photobooth against the cinderblock stands as a timeless monument in an empty amusement park. The natural contrast between the brightly lit Space Needle and the darkness of the night sky plays off each other well in color or black and white.
