In February, 2010, P1xels curator Knox Bronson organized the world’s first gallery show of the then-underground artform iPhone photography. Thursday, September 22, P1xels returns to Berkeley’s Giorgi Gallery with an entirely new exhibit of photography completely shot and processed using only an iPhone.

This new show runs from Thursday, September 22 through Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the Giorgi Gallery and features all new works from many of the art’s premier iPhoneographers.

“During the curation of the first Giorgi show, as pictures poured in from all over the world, it was very apparent to me that there was a handful of artists who were really working this new medium, this technology, to bring forth personal vision,” says Bronson. “It was really exciting. I knew, intuitively, that they would continue to pull ahead of the pack and that has proven to be true. What has amazed me though, is how far they, and the community as a whole, have brought the work in such a short period of time.”

The original show, “Pixels at an Exhibition” was the first ever juried exhibition of pure iPhoneographic art in the world. The original exhibit ran for month and caught the attention of The New York Times, the Contra Costa Times, and other news networks, which helped to raise awareness of the photographic art of iPhoneography.

Since the original Giorgi Gallery exhibit, P1xels has garnered attention from around the world. It is home to many of the finest pioneers of the exploding, emergent and as yet still underground art form of iPhoneography.

“We have produced a number of juried exhibitions and I have made it a point to be in the galleries as much as possible, to both educate and learn. I have seen the reactions to the work over and over again: people love the vibrant work, the images imbued with passion. When they realize that all the pictures were made solely with the iPhone, they are even more amazed. People respond to this underground medium in a visceral way because it is pure and untainted by the dogma and theory, as well as the commercialism that sometimes stifles and inhibits much of modern art and photography” says Bronson.

P1xels has produced gallery shows around the country, as well as being the first asked by Apple to introduce iPhoneography to the public in their larger theater stores across the nation, including Apple Stores in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, and Santa Monica.

This month, P1xels returns home to where it all began: the Giorgi Gallery, with the second annual global round up of the newest and most dynamic iPhone photography from artists around the world.

The show runs from September 22 to October 30, 2011. Opening night party is September 24, 6-10 p.m.
