This is fresh off the rumor mill. New photos of a device that may be a prototype of the new iPhone 5 have surfaced, this time on a French website, www.nowhereelse.fr. It contains several images which are also watermarked from Asian website, digi.sohu.com.

It’s shown compared to both iPhone 4 series and iPhone series devices. It’s in line with other leaked images that have been reported, including some that I’ve previously reported here which I feel are reliable. I’ve got more images after the jump. >>>

The new device retains the overall form factor of the iPhone 4S, but it’s a little taller to accommodate the rumored, newer 16:9 aspect ratio screen. The body of the device is also thinner than the 4 series. I think that’s due in part to the fact that this device no longer has a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass on the back side.

Of note to iPhoneographers, though, is the new camera configuration, seen here assembled for the first time. The flash is just a little bit further from the lens as we’d reported previously. The lens bezel is also noticeably smaller than the current lens of the iPhone 4S. What this means for the camera specs is unknown at this time, but it does indicate that the iPhone 5 will be different than the iPhone 4S. In fact, if these photos are real, then the new iPhone will have a lens opening that’s closer in size to the iPhone 3G than the 4 series.

Of course, it’s very possible that this is an elaborate mock-up (or decoy). We won’t know for sure until it’s announced. Apple is expected to announce details of the new iPhone at an as-yet-unannounced event on September 12. The expected street date of the new device is guesstimated to be September 21.
