This week is the 3rd Anniversary of Life In LoFi. To celebrate, we’re giving away a lot of great photo apps and gear all week long.
I am delighted when I discover a photo app that recreates lens aberrations. There are a ton of apps that add analog retro film effects to your images and many of them are excellent. But there are few that add the look of glass to an image. Today’s app giveaway is Meta, a great, easy-to-use camera app with some unique contemporary-style effects.

Meta – Contemporary Photo Filters is different than the slew of retro photo apps and Instagram-wannabes. It lets you choose from many modern-style photo effects, including Fisheye Lomo, a CRT TV, a Light Leak Camera, glass-style grid, pixelization. There are 22 effects, each with varying degrees of adjustability. There are a few retro filters in the app, but overall there are some great-looking, unique, well-rendered filters in this app. Output resolution is 3.2 MP — not full res, but high enough to get some pretty good enlargements.

It has several filters that make it worth the price of the app for me. It’s an easy to use app that combines one-click ease with some variation of effects. ”
Meta is $1.99 in the App Store. Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, iPad (3rd generation) and iPad Wi-Fi + 4G. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.
