New photo goo app Elasticam is FREE right this minute – a savings of $1.99. This is for a limited time only, so grab it now!

I’ve been playing around with it this morning. It’s fast, responsive, and saves in full-res. For what it is, it’s pretty fun! More after the jump, including an App Store link. >>>

I often wax nostalgic about the old Kai’s Photo Goo plug-in for Photoshop. It visually defined the 1990’s for a summer. The eels’ “Beautiful Freak” CD cover wouldn’t have looked the same without the distorted, bugeyes created in Goo.

Elasticam is another “goo” app for iPhone which lets you distort and smear images in a fluid manner. I found it to be one of the most responsive and powerful apps of its type in the App Store.

Elasticam has several tools, including adjustable brush size and swirl to help you create some really gooey distortions like big jawlines and alien heads, all onscreen and all easy to figure out with some experimenting and play.

Elasticam renders onscreen in preview mode, which makes it fast to work in, but it saves in full iPhone 8MP resolution images. Images are rendered in nice detail.

The app’s undo is a bit clunky. I wish there were onscreen Undo and Reset features. In this first version, I only got the Undo and Reset buttons after saving the image to my camera roll… sometimes.

Elasticam is normally $1.99 in the App Store. It’s free for a few days, so grab it now. Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

Please share this post on Facebook and Twitter. In this season of giving, it’s nice to help your friends save a couple of bucks, too.
