AppleInsider is reporting that Apple has opened up at least 24 new positions for their in-house camera hardware and software engineering teams. This further illustrates that Apple takes iPhoneography seriously and how the iPhone and other mobile devices have changed photography.

pixlr express plus for iPhone, iPhoneographyPixlr Express PLUS is a photo editor that lets you quickly crop, re-size, and fix any picture, remove red-eye, and whiten teeth in a completely ads-free experience. Then choose from the huge variety of effects, overlays, and borders to personalize any image.

It’s on sale now for only $0.99 — that’s $2.00 off the regular price. This discount is for a limited time, so grab it quickly. This is for the full, ad-free version of the app, not the feature-limited, adware version. More on the app including an App Store link and what I think about it after the jump. >>>

Sorry for the stock images on this one, but it’s Friday night and I wanted to get this post up quickly. Actually, the App Store images are representative of what this app can do.

The app has only a few user ratings, but they’re mostly 5-star ratings. I may not go 5 stars, but this is a good, solid 4 star app.

It’s got a solid tool set for tweaking and finishing your images. including the standard tools as well as a blur effect, red-eye reducer, image whitener (good for teeth, I suppose), sharpen, built-in denoise and many others. You can use either the app’s built-in camera or import images from your photo library.

It’s got a very broad selection of filters, textures, and borders. Effects packs are downloaded from the cloud when needed the first time. All effects are unlocked and included in the price of the app. There are a broad range of filter styles, including a wide range of vintage and analog effect styles, “soft” and subtle effects, and a cool set of multi-grid, multi-shade “creative” effects that are worth a buck alone.

The UI can get cluttered, but everything is flyaway and is hidden yet easily accessible most of the time.

If you’ve already got a big image editor, Pixlr Express Plus offers a few image fix tools you may not already have depending on what’s already on your iPhone. There’s a broad range of filters, frames and textures — many of them very usable. The app may add to your camera bag.

Pixlr Express Plus supports the full 8MP resolution of an iPhone 5. It strips out most EXIF data including location info. Social sharing is almost non-existent and limited to the standard iOS options.

Pixlr Express Plus is an excellent choice for users wanting to step up from a more basic image editor. Grab the full version now while it’s on sale. It’s made by the same folks who gave us the underrated Pixlr-o-matic and Pixlr-o-matic PLUS which is another app you should have a look at.

Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 5.1 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

Sorry Marty, but I'm afraid this is sleezy rip-off. The free express version doesn't have any ads as it is, but half the features have to be purchased as packs.. They say if you buy the plus version, it's ad-free and all the features are unlocked. I just bought it since you're pimpin it & their promise of unlocked features is not true. The app is still crippled by incessant requests to buy features & packs. I freaking HATE this sleezy developer technique. I'd ask for a refund but it wouldn't be worth the hassle for a $1. I'm guessing that's what they're counting on. Will warn others on itunes with a 1-star review.

Oops, I misspoke. You have to download additional packs for features but there doesn't appear to be a charge. Great buy for $1. Sorry about that. Gotta go change my iTunes review. :)
