My iPhone 4S finally arrived. This may not be news to many of you, but there is a bug in Hipstamatic 225 that prevents the app from saving full resolution images on an iPhone 4S. In high quality mode, the maximum file size is only 1200 x 1200 pixels — the same as medium quality on the 4S. Definitely something to think about if you’re one of the second-wave of adopters for the iPhone 4S or as many of us who got to Apple or AT&T late in the day are now getting our new iPhones.
I had no problems getting full res out of Hipstamatic on my iPhone 4 using iOS 5. This is an incompatibility between Hipstamatic and the new camera in the iPhone 4S. Hipstamatic supports device resolution on all other iPhones.
There is no workaround yet that I know of, short of shooting Hipstamatic on your old iPhone. Kind of a pain to have to carry around two devices.
The latest from Hipstamatic? “The Hipstamatic development team is fully aware of this issue and are actively working on a fix. There is no ETA just yet for an update, but it will be as soon as possible.”
We’ll keep you posted.
