The Baazart – Photo Collage Editor has always been a strong iOS app for background removal, adding layers, text and creative filters as well as the usual tools for cropping, opacity, and the usual image adjustment tools.
The app has been updated for the holidays, with a special edition ($4.99 normally, but $0.99 during the holidays December 17-23) so you can add Christmas themes to your creations.
Other features include:
- Use photos from your camera, photo albums, or web search
- Choose from hundreds of backgrounds and stickers
- Add text
- There’s a large collection of effects and filters
- Crop collages to portrait or square format
- Control over the opacity of photos and text
- Image adjustments including contrast, saturation, splash, focus and blur settings
- Capable of up to 50 layers to your collage
The app provides non-destructive photo editing: each layer is independently editable.
I gave the app a spin and found it easy to use, yet very powerful. There are reference videos that go over many of the features. Background replacement, such as adding a new sky or other image behind people or other objects is very powerful yet easy to use. It’s very Photoshop like, which is impressive in an iOS app.
The holiday backgrounds and images that have been added are generally tasteful and you could make a handsome holiday card or party invitation with them. Photos of people can be inserted in a Christmas type foreground. I am not a fan of stickers, but for the season they might be appropriate if used sparingly.
One of the interesting things the app supports is integration with the Adobe Creative Cloud apps. You can sync to any of the iOS of desktop apps, and output your creation as an Adobe PSD file for work on your desktop or iPhone or iPad. I tried that feature and it worked as intended.
My only gripe is this is yet another portrait oriented app. I still prefer working in landscape mode, but all the templates are portrait dimensions. I’d like a choice, and this app doesn’t offer me one.
Still, the output is high quality and full resolution. It’s a little late to get started on Christmas Cards, but if you are sending electronically you could make some impactful greetings.
The app has a variety of in-app purchases like additional fonts and themes, but I really don’t deem them a necessary purchase.
Baazart – Photo Collage Editor packs a lot of power in a single app. For the $0.99 sale price starting the 17th it’s a no-brainer to add to your photo editing toolbox. If you skip the Christmas stuff, it’s still powerful and full-featured.
