Whether or not you got a the spiffy new iPhone 4S, have you upgraded to iOS 5 yet? Despite the horror stories (and there are a few out there and they’re justified), it’s a great iOS update once you get it on your device. Even better, most of the apps I use daily have had no problems with the new OS. This is in contrast to the previous full-number system update, 3.x to 4.0, where a lot of apps broke in the new iOS.

Many iPhone photo apps have been updated to at the very least work well within iOS 5, although there are plenty others that work great, even without the official stamp of approval.

I’ve been updating Life In LoFi’s iOS Compatibility Grid. It now reflects all of the photo apps that have been certified by their developers to be iOS 5-compatible on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The list is updated often and contains a lot of other information besides iOS compatibility.

To save you a trip over to the grid, here’s a list of the iPhone photo apps that are certified iOS compatible as of today, including a few surprises — apps I’d thought were end-of-lifed back in iPhone OS 3. Of course, just because an app is not on this list, doesn’t mean it’s not iOS 5-compatible. I’ve found that many other apps also work great in the new OS.

The list is growing rapidly with each day’s App Store updates. App Store Top 50 apps are boldified.
