classictoy for iPhone iPod TouchThe ClassicCAM apps from misskiwi are a favorite of mine. The film and lens filters create gorgeous effects with characteristics that are unmatched by no other apps.

ClassicTOY is a very versatile plastic toy camera app that emulates a number of classic, lo-fi toy cameras. An update has been submitted to the App Store. Version 5 should hit iTunes any time. We’ve got a preview of some of the several new features in the upcoming version.

Probably the biggest new feature is the addition of the new Shinoks Edition lens — a supersampler-type lens that takes a strip of four captures. The capture speed is easily adjustable from fast to slow and there’s a manual option available as well.

Other new features in the app include a slightly revised skin and user interface as well as the ability to use a front camera on supported devices. ClassicTOY also has a new make your own wallpaper feature, using images from the app’s built-in lightbox.

The price to unlock all of ClassicTOY’s lenses will rise from 99¢ to $1.99 with this update, and it includes all of the classic lenses including the new Shinoks Edition lens. Even at two dollars, this is a highly recommended in-app purchase. If you purchase ClassicTOY’s Full Lens Pack before version 5 goes live, you still should be able to get the lens pack for the lower price. The lens pack update including the new lens is free to existing paid users.

I’ve reviewed an early version of ClassicTOY. I liked it a lot then and it’s only gotten better in subsequent updates. ClassicTOY is one of my favorite camera apps in the ClassicCAM series and the new update looks to be another good update to the app.

ClassicTOY is free. The Full Lens Pack in-app purchase is 99¢ until the version 5 update is released, then it goes up to $1.99.
