Hipstamatic celebrates its first year in the App Store on December 10.

The Levi’s Photo Workshop in New York City is teaming up with Hipstamatic and going global with its celebration of photography with two viral contests, an exhibition and culminating party. There’s also a new, very limited edition GoodPak released in conjunction with this event. And we may have stumbled across a few sneak peek images from the new Hipstamatic Melodie lens….

blankI Am a Photographer challenges those typically behind the lens to capture their own self portrait. Submissions will be accepted through Sunday, December 5. You can submit contest entries in-app or click here for entry information.

The “I Am a Photographer” contest culminates in an exhibition and unveiling event at the Levi’s Photo Workshop. The winning artist’s work will be exhibited and all contest submissions will be projected alongside the exhibition in a slideshow. The opening reception takes place Friday, December 10 from 7-10 PM at the workshop.

Levi’s Photo Workshop Holiday Goodpak

The event also features launch of Hipsta’s new Levi’s® Photo Workshop Holiday GoodPak. They’ve teamed up with photographer extraordinaire Melodie McDaniel to create a limited edition holiday lens with all proceeds going to The Five Boroughs Foundation of Photography and Kids With Cameras. The limited edition GoodPak will be available from December 10th thru January 3rd.

It looks like the Levi’s® Photo Workshop Holiday GoodPak conatins only the new lens and a new plaid Hipstamatic skin. While doing research for this post, I may have stumbled across a few images taken with the new Melodie lens. Here they are from a post I found on Hipstamatic.com:

The first two images look like they were shot with the Alfred Infrared Film, which adds the strong yellow cast. The third image was shot with the Pistil film, which only effects the frame. I’m not absolutely certain that these were taken with the new Melodie lens. We find out for sure in about a week.

UPDATE: If Tumblr holds up, here is a link to tumbler.zinkwazi.com which has an image shot with the new Melodie Lens. The characteristics of the lens look like higher contrast, good color saturations and a killer cheap plastic lens distortion! It looks like the new Melodie Lens could be one of my favorite and most used Hipstamatic lenses.
