Hipstamatic December 13 media event

When many users think iPhone photo, they think Hipstamatic. And with good reason. This fun, hipster toy photo app creates great-looking analog film effects and has been at or near the very top of the App Store’s Photo app Sales chart since its introduction. Hipstamatic is so popular, it’s the only photo app to have its own category on this blog.

Tuesday, December 13, Hipstamatic’s Chief Executive Lucas Buick will be holding an informal media event in their San Francisco offices to announce…?

We don’t know. Few details have been given. All that we know for sure is on the graphic above. It’s something analog. There’s a new icon that looks like if a “real” Hipstamatic camera had produced one of the cheap disposable cameras on the body of the Michelin man. And based on an email I received a couple of weeks ago, the new app — whatever it is — should street on December 15.

Will Lucas announce the long-awaited iPad or Android port? Is this a free, “lite” version of Hipstamatic? Is this the free, Hipstamatic, 24-shot disposable camera concept rumored about month ago? Is this an entirely new photo app that we can’t even imagine yet?

Fewer apps cause as much of a frenzy when introducing something new as Hipstamatic. When a new lens or film pak is released, the iPhoneography world is abuzz (both good and bad). Speculation on new Hipstamatic products and software is rivaled only by new iPhone talk.

Not many details are available now. We’ll keep you posted here as soon as we have anything to tell — either December 13 or before.
