“How I Made Instagram Images That Were Good Enough for Sports Illustrated”

iPhone photography is making news again. Literally.

I like iPhoneography a lot. It’s also no secret that I love baseball and bleed Texas Rangers red. So anytime the two come together, it makes me one really happy guy. Here’s an excellent behind-the-scenes look at photographer Brad Mangin’s upcoming six-page Sports Illustrated spread that was shot with an iPhone and processed using only iOS apps.

In his blog, Brad tells more about his process and the apps he used to create the images (Hint: it wasn’t simply Instagram). He gives his thoughts on shooting with an iPhone and how he first “felt pretty strange not using my Canon EOS-1 Mark IV and shooting with my iPhone instead.”

“I purchased my iPhone 4s in December of 2011 and immediately fell in love with the special effects and social networking aspect of working with Instagram…. Once Spring Training began, I felt like I had an amazing blank canvas in front of me just begging to be shot with my iPhone.”
