The first camera phone photo was taken on June 11th, 1997. In honor of that date, 1197 is a conference dedicated to mobile & iPhone photography.
This year, the 1197 Conference is being held at the Soho Gallery for Digital Art in New York City. I’ll be there on Friday, February 22 speaking as part of the MPA Premier Event and on the discussion panel “Sailing the Cs of Mobile Photography: Create, Career & Community.” Come on out. I’d love to meet you in person.

From the pressie:
From February 17-23, 2013 Soho Gallery For Digital Art welcomes 1197 to NYC. Come join us as we present week long conferences, juried exhibits, workshops, panels, prizes and worldwide collaborations.
1197 will be coinciding with Social Media Week and is proud to be sponsored by Nokia and Schneider Optics. All 1197 activities are free of charge. To participate, you must register with either SMW or 1197.
Read about last year’s 1197 in San Francisco in New York Times, MacWorld and the San Jose Mercury News.
Here’s a link to the full conference schedule. Some of the events have started. Most are scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week.
Events are free, but you’ve got to register first. Most are already sold out. I’ll let you know here and on Twitter and Facebook if there are any other side events, such as meetups and photo walks.
The panel I’m on also features The MPA’s Daniel Berman, Jen Pollack Bianco, and iPhoneArt.com’s Nate Park. Sion Fullana will be presenting earlier, as will one Ari Fuchs from Aviary, along with many other interesting presentations.
I look forward to meeting many of the New York area iPhoneographers in person.
