Cortex Camera is our App of the Day. It’s on sale right now for only $0.99, down a couple bucks from its regular price of $2.99.
Cortex Camera creates crisp and noise-free photos on your iPhone by effortlessly combining dozens of images to create a sharp, noise-free image. Click past the jump to find out what this means for your photos.
Basically, Cortex Camera takes dozens of exposures, aligns and combines them to create large images with greatly reduced noise and significantly improved clarity. It’s a great low-light camera that virtually eliminates the sensor noise created when using a high ISO setting. See the sample gallery above.
Thus, the app can create quality images that are larger than the default size of your device. On an iPhone 5, 5S, 6, 6+, that’s 12.5 megapixels.
If you plan on creating oversize enlargements with your iPhone, Cortex Camera is right up your alley. Because of the size and quality of the images, Cortex Camera lets you shoot photos that are perfect for extra-large print sizes. Think gallery-sized landscapes and cityscapes — any image where you’ve got a few seconds to shoot and you want to capture a ton of detail.
Cortex Camera is not an everyday camera. It takes about 4 seconds to capture and save the shot on my iPhone 5S, so action shots, shots of pets and kids, and other subjects that move will be difficult to capture.
We take photo trips a lot and often discover breathtaking vistas. Panos taken with Apple’s Camera often distort the image. I’ll take most of my snapshots with a standard camera app, but always try to get a few shots with Cortex Camera to capture the details.
