Because of the size and construction of the iPhone lens, it’s very difficult to get good organic lens flares. The iPhone 4 has a signature bokeh effect, but I’ve almost never gotten good flares and light aberrations on my 4S, especially, it seems, when I’ve really wanted them.
The new LensFlare update was just released. It’s a maintenance update which has some unnamed minor tweaks and optimizations. No new effects or features.
Using LensFlare, I can choose from over 50 different flares and position them perfectly on my image. LensFlare renders the flares perfectly and naturally. Many of the effects are rendered on the fly and change as you position them around the image. It’s like they are interacting with a virtual lens. You can also adjust the brightness of the effect, the tint, as well as adding and adjusting lens textures.
The app’s great looking effects top out at 3072×3072 pixels on an iPhone 4S — technically that’s 9 megapixels. It saves very little EXIF data and no location data.
