Instagram’s New Web Viewer Does More, But Still Not Enough.

Instagram's new web viewer

Instagram iPhoneThere’s slow but steady progress in Instagram-land. As we anxiously await the release of the long-promised Android version of the app bringing with it hordes of new Instagrammers to follow and share with (more importantly, hordes of new Android users to show off our iPhone photo apps to), it’s easy to overlook some of the cool stuff that Instagram have released in the past few months.

Dropico for iPhone – Back in the App Store with a New Update

After a brief hiatus from the App Store, the iPhone version of Dropico is back and updated to version 2.0.1. The new update cryptically says only “Bug fixes”. I suspect one or two of those bugs were what caused the app to go away for a while.

Dropico is a social photo app for iOS and Android devices. It connects to just about every social photo network you would use except Instagram. It’s improved a lot since version 1.0, but I still found a few bugs in this version.

UPDATED: Now with revised shipping dates and correct availability dates. =M=

I love shopping the Photojojo store. Just about everything in there is designed to make camera geeks go “Want!”. This week, my latest want is their new 8x Telephoto Lens. Announced back in February, it finally ships this Friday, April 29, 2011 (iPhone 3G/3GS version ships a little later), but they are accepting pre-orders for the lens now. UPDATE: This little beast has actually been available from Photojojo since February. It’s on backorder and now both styles won’t be shipping until Thursday, May 5th. =M=

New Case Turns Your iPhone Into a Hipstamatic

The new Hipstacase 100 from Hipstamatic

Previously, if you wanted to shoot with a physical Hipstamatic camera, the closest you could get was an iPhone skin and a see-through case. Not any more. Hipstamatic along with Agent18 have created Hipstacase 100, a cool little case which gives your iPhone 4 the look and texture of a Hipstamatic camera.

New Website iPhoneographyCentral Launches

A great new resource for iPhone photographers, iPhoneographyCentral, went live today. Not so much a new iPhone photo blog, but more of a website where iPhoneographers can share their techniques with others, from the basic to the really cool.

It’s been in beta for a while, so out of the gate, some of iPhoneography’s premier names have already contributed some of their secrets.

ShakeItPhoto Updated. Now With Real Polaroid Border!

ShakeItPhoto 2.0's new Polaroid border

One of the things that I love about ShakeItPhoto is the way it alters the colors of the photo. It doesn’t accurately recreate the tones of old Polaroid images. In reality, they’re often flat and washed out. ShakeItPhoto recreates the way we remember old Polaroid photos. And that, to me, is part of its magic.

ShakeItPhoto was updated today. The 2.0 update has one new feature — a real Polaroid SX-70 border.

QuickPix (formerly QuikCam) is Out Now. And It’s Fast….

QuikCam, the speedy camera replacement app from Two Teeth Technologies, has been renamed and is now called QuickPix. The new update is out and while light on new features — the previous 1.1 update had a ton of them — it’s got some very impressive performance improvements.

Perfectly Clear App Store Disappearance an App Store “Hiccup”. Should Return Soon.

Athentech Perfectly Clear for iPhoneEven with the improved camera of the iPhone 4, Perfectly Clear [ Perfectly ] is still a regular part of my photo processing workflow. It’s one-button processing that  compensates and tweaks color, contrast and brightness in iPhone photos. It improves image sharpness, punches up normally exposed images, and can help save poorly exposed ones. I think it’s still an essential app for iPhone 2G, 3G, and 3GS owners.

One of Life In LoFi’s Facebook followers just pointed out that Perfectly Clear hasn’t been available in the App Store for the past day or so.

I contacted Brad Malcolm, President of Athentech Imaging, to find out what’s up with Perfectly Clear.

Instagram 1.6: Update With Caution

Instagram 1.6: the new Brannan filter

UPDATED: Now with the official “fixes” from Instagram.

UPDATE 04.23.11: Info about the Instagram 1.6.1 update has been added.

The new Instagram 1.6 update is out and is buggy and crashy. Consider waiting until the next update is released which will hopefully fix the widely reported installation problems and stability issues.

Updating, reinstalling or installing takes an abnormally long time. Some users have reported install times of up to 30 minutes on a fast WiFi network. It took me about 4 minutes to do a fresh install. That’s a lot slower than this download/install should take.
