Meet iPhoneographers James Campbell and Jim Darling at an Apple iPhoneography event in New York City this Thursday, May 19. Both are speaking at the Upper West Side Apple Store in New York City at 7:00 PM. The theme is “Portraits with the iPhone.” They’ll be discussing the iPhone Portrait Project and share some tips for capturing great street photography.
If you’re in or around New York City this Thursday evening, swing by the Apple Store on 14th Street. Allan Hoffman, fellow blogger and author of the excellent book Create Great iPhone Photos, will be speaking this Thursday evening from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm about his book and iPhone photography.
Apple’s Camera app is fast and easy to use. The latest version of Camera has an excellent zoom and HDR in addition to the geo-tagging it’s had for a while. With the improvements in the iOS 4 camera, there are fewer and fewer compelling reasons to purchase and use a camera replacement app. By camera replacement app, I don’t mean a camera app that applies specialized filters. I mean a camera app with additional, specialized tools and features that give you greater options than the stock Camera when capturing your photos.
The kick-off event for Pixels – The Art of the iPhone at Apple was last night at the San Francisco Apple store. This was the first iPhone photography event directly associated with Apple.

Not a cool link, but an important one if you have an iPhone 4. It was a given that Apple’s iPhone 4 Case Program wouldn’t last forever. A recent announcement from Apple pretty much confirms it. Apple has announce that the iPhone 4 Case Program will end on September 30, in about 2 and half weeks.
[UPDATEx3 09.03.10 10:10] Today was Apple’s September Event. Typically an iPod-centric event, there was plenty to please current and future iPhoneographers in today’s presentation. Today’s event was more than the traditional refreshing of the iPod line. The iPod Touch now gets not one, but two cameras — but not the high-resolution still camera that was the buzz of rumor sites.
If you’re in or around the San Francisco Bay area this Thursday evening July 8, iPhone photographer Knox Bronson (who curates Pixels at an Exhibition) is giving an interesting presentation on iPhone photography, art, and apps at the Stockton Street Apple Store. Knox is one of the biggest proponents of iPhoneography as an art form and has done a lot of work to help expose the art of the iPhone in brick and mortar gallery setting, including the world’s first gallery show devoted to iPhone photography.
Fellow iPhoneographer and soon-to-be iPhone 4 owner Dixon Hamby just sent in this tip.
Some people are having better luck reserving their iPhone 4 using Apple’s new Apple Store app for iPhone and iPad. The app was just released today which was overshadowed by today’s other big Apple news.
You can do a lot of things Apple with this app – buy Apple products and accessories, read customer reviews, find an Apple Retail Store, stay up to date with in-store events, and make Personal Shopping, Genius Bar, or One to One appointments. And, it looks like you can use it to easily reserve a new iPhone 4.
You can’t use it to purchase a new iPhone 4 — only to reserve one for in-store pickup on the day of release. If you’re changing telcos, it looks like all of that is handled instore on the the day of pickup. More importantly, your credit card is charged when you pick-up your phone, not when you order it.
I tried one more time to purchase an iPhone 4 online. While I was waiting on the spinning power button while AT&T may or may not have checked my credit, I downloaded the app and reserved my 32 GB iPhone 4 in seconds. Easy.
By the way, after waiting a few minutes online, my order timed-out.
Reserve your in-store pickup early as it looks like slots are limited.
If you’re having problems or concerns about today’s preorder, download the app from the App Store and give it a try. The app worked very well for me. Let us know how it works for you in the comments below.
The iPhone OS 4.0 was previewed today during an Apple Live Event. Steve Jobs was onstage live to introduce the next generation iPhone OS, with over 100 new features and 7 main “tentpole” features. Upgrade pricing (if there is any) wasn’t announced. If you’re a developer, the iPhone OS 4.0 SDK is already available for download and there are already photos and tidbits about the new OS scattered throughout the blogosphere. The rest of us will have to wait until summer to get our hands on the new update. iPad owners will have to wait until this Fall for their big OS 4.0 update.
