iPhoneography: 707

The cockpit of the Boeing 707. The Boeing 707. For me, there are three that matter — John Travolta’s personal 707 painted in classic Qantas livery, the original Dash-80 prototype that’s in the Smithsonian, and this one. But, this is the one. This is the aircraft that landed at Dallas Love Field that autumn morning. This is the aircraft that carried the President’s body back to Washington, DC. LBJ was sworn in as President in this aircraft — in an aisle just behind the wing. I got chills when I stood in the spot and faced forward.

Living near Dallas and appreciating its past, you can’t help but feel a connection and a sense of history where JFK is concerned.

Review: You Gotta See This!

You Gotta See This!
Version 1.0
Price: $1.99

Rating 3 stars

Bottom Line: An easy, fun app that replicates the panoramic collage style of photography. A few frustrating bugs in the initial release drop it down a star.

You Gotta See This is a new panography or panoramic collage from Boinx Software. Panography is different than panorama in that images are very visibly tiled to create a collage. David Hockney is an artist who uses this style of photography in his works. You Gotta See This! is an easy, fun app that replicates this style of photography.

Greetings from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where we are for a few more days on a working vacation. If your perceptions of Brew City are based solely on old reruns of “Laverne & Shirley” and “That 70′s Show”, you are missing out on a truly great (and photogenic) city.

It’s going to be a big week in iPhoneLand. The new iPhone OS, iOS 4, hits today. The iPhone 4 streets later this week. In lieu of a full-blown post this morning, here are a few random musings….

iPhoneography: Isham Cemetery in the Golden Hour

Isham Cemetery in the Golden Hour

Toolbox: AutoStitch

Texas photographers joke that our Golden Hour — the time before and after sunset (or sunrise) is really the Golden 12 Minutes. Luck had me at the cemetery at that perfect time of day when the shadows were long and the setting sun cast a beautiful golden wash over the North Texas winter landscape.

iPhoneography: Isham Cemetery with a dusting of snow

iPhoneography: Isham Cemetery with a Dusting of Snow

"Isham Cemetery with a Dusting of Snow"

Toolbox: AutoStitch, AutoAdjust, MonoPhix

Ten minutes from downtown sits our neighborhood on the east side of Fort Worth. It’s one of the areas of the DFW Metroplex that still has a somewhat rural feel. On the weekends, you often see people riding their horses down the medians on John T. White Road. When I first moved to this area back in the mid-1990′s, it was still a mail rural route.

There’s an old cemetery across from a woodframe church near some new housing subdivisions. I’ve only seen evidence of one funeral there in the years I’ve lived here.

Today, we had our third snow of the season — freakishly winter-like for an area that should be sunny and in the 60′s this time of year. Driving past old Isham Cemetery, the gray sky and the light dusting of the snow over the open field of the old cemetery made it feel like winter.
