Hey, Dallas/Fort Worth! Upgrading to an iPhone 4S? Read This First.

In getting an iPhone 4S, I was first informed that didn’t qualify for an early upgrade. I could have gotten the $549 32GB iPhone 4 delivered to me around November 30. That’s way too long for me to wait for the device. I’ve spent the past few days fighting with AT&T’s customer service over the phone. While everyone was nice, it was fruitless although I did learn a lot. See my post on upgrading to the iPhone 4S here.

This is a plug for Terence Peden and the great team at the AT&T Mobility Store in Arlington, Texas. When AT&T’s Phone Customer Service wasn’t able to help me upgrade without buying the new 4S outright, Terence and the crew at the North Arlington Store helped me out and got me the iPhone 4S for the discounted rate (and, of course, a new 2-year contract).

FortWorthography: The iPhone Photography of Kevin Buchanan

iPhoneography by Kevin Buchanan

I live and work in Fort Worth, Texas. For those who don’t know, Fort Worth is 30 miles west and worlds apart from our more famous neighbor to the east, Dallas. I have lived here for 30 years and I truly believe that Fort Worth is the quiet gem of North Texas. Seriously, if Chuck Norris would have picked Fort Worth instead of Dallas for “Walker, Texas Ranger”, y’all would be sayin’ Fort Worth/Dallas like some of us prefer to say here in Tarrant County.

Fort Worth is a very cool, very cultured city and takes any opportunity to inundate you with art and beer — whenever possible at the same time. This weekend, the Near Southside neighborhood threw another one of these artistic block parties called the Spring Arts Goggle. There on Magnolia Avenue, blogger and iPhoneographer Kevin Buchanan displayed the first brick and mortar exhibit of iPhoneography prints in Fort Worth, Texas.

Instagram’s first Worldwide InstaMeet back in March went so well that they have organized another one. As previously reported here, the next meetup is tomorrow, Saturday, May 7, 2011, where you can meet, shoot and share with other Instagrammers . It’s a locally global event where you can get together with other Instagrammers in your area (or whichever area you’re in at the time). The last one was a blast here in Dallas and I highly recommend participating in yours.

Instagram’s Worldwide Photowalk #2: 7 May 2011

#instameetdallas, 03/24/11

Last social photo post of the day….

Instagram were so impressed by the turnout for the first Worldwide InstaMeet that they wanted to get another one together as soon as they could. The next meetup will be on Saturday, 7 May,2011.

I was part of the Dallas, Texas InstaMeet. Not only did I have a great time meeting other area iPhoneographers, but it was great watching everyone as they shot. We meandered through Dallas’ historic Deep Ellum. It was cool to see what everyone “saw” when we were shooting the same subject. It was really fun to see the shots being taken and watching them show up in Instagram seconds later. We all made some great new friends that day. I encourage all Instagrammers to get together with others in their hometown for a photowalk.

The HipShootOut Exhibition in Dallas, Texas opened Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Visual Arts Center Gallery on the University of Texas-Dallas campus. The event was presented by Intownmix and Photopolus DFW. Part of the proceeds went to raise milk money for a free mobile summer lunch program AmeriCorps and Central Dallas Ministries called Food on the Move, a program that provides more than 500,000 meals for kids in low income areas in Dallas.

The exhibition was part of a non-credit class offered at UTD recently, although submissions for the exhibit were open to anyone. How did Dallas Hipstas do? My thoughts after the jump.
