PerfectPhoto 2.0 released. A powerful photo editor.

perfectphotoAt the top of the Utilities section of the App Store is a powerful photo editor that gives Photogene and Photoforge a run for their money.

PerfectPhoto by MacPhun has been around almost as long as those two venerable photo apps and boasts a feature set that compares favorably to both — along with some great features of its own. MacPhun is also the developer of FX Photo Studio, a very good filter app. The Perfect Photo 2.0 update is now available and while it doesn’t add many new features to this already powerful app, it has several new features in particular that I think are pretty cool.

Several major apps on sale now for a limited time

Countdown t-minus five days to Black Friday. There are several major apps that are on sale this weekend in the App Store. AutoStitch Panorama, Color Splash, Live FX, and Perfect Photo are all on sale for a dollar off each. Some of the price reductions aren’t great, but collectively here’s the chance to save a couple of bucks if you’ve had your eye on any of these apps. I think all of these sale apps are recommended ones from good developers.

These sales are for a limited time only and could go at any time, so grab them now. Pricing and App Store links are after the jump. >>>

New LoFi Poll: iPhone Photo Editors

.

We’ve got a new LoFi Poll this week.

I’m often asked if I could recommend one iPhone photo editor, which would it be. It really is a difficult question to answer as there are a lot of factors to consider, such as level of experience in photography and Photoshop. Which, of course, leads to the question “If I could  choose only one image editor, which would it be?” And thus, this week’s poll.

PhotoForge for iPhone: Updated and On Sale

Photoforge

PhotoForge

PhotoForge by GhostBird Software just got a new update and for a limited time, the price has been reduced to $1.99. After this weekend, the price goes up to $4.99 USD.

Several apps have tried to wear the namesake of “Photoshop for the iPhone” including Photogene and PerfectPhoto. PhotoForge truly is the image editing powerhouse for iPhone. I use both this and Photogene regularly to process my images. If you’re only using Photogene, you are missing out on so much that your iPhone is capable of.

iPhoneography: Variations on Entrance No Entrance

Griffith Observatory
Los Angeles, California

Like variations on a theme in a piece of music, some variations on an image.

The original image, Shot with Camera, processed with PerfectPhoto

I think the original image stands well on its own — no filters needed. I adjusted the color and contrast just a little bit.

I liked the lines throughout the image and how they frame little windows within it. I like how the image captures just a hint of the Art Deco of the classic building. I love the playfulness of the two signs — a smaller version of competing “Do Not Enter” signs.

Just to see how it would look, I applied several filters. I experimented. Results I like I’m sharing here. Afraid that I’d be applying filters for filters’ sake, I am surprised at how much I like how each filter changes the mood of the original image.

Perfect Photo for iPhone on Sale for $0.99! Limited Time Only!

Perfect Photo

Perfect Photo

Perfect Photo by MacPhun is on sale for $0.99 USD in the App Store for a limited time. The app normally sells for $3.99. This sale price will be available until the next update.

I haven’t put it through its paces yet, but Perfect Photo looks to be an image-editing app with similar features to Photogene and PhotoForge, as well as some other features and filter effects that neither of those apps have. The current version, 1.4.0, is getting mostly 5s as ratings in the app store.

If you don’t already own an image editing app for your iPhone, or if you’re looking to complement the ones you have, this sounds like a good opportunity to try out Perfect Photo.

I’ll have a full review of Perfect Photo and how it compares to Photogene and PhotoForge soon.
