None of the improvements and additions get in the way of the excellent camera module of ProCamera. For shooting, the app adds tools to help improve the quality of the shot in camera, including separate focus and exposure lock, white balance lock, and anti-shake stabilization. It has all of the things to look for in a good camera replacement app.
The studio and effects modules put the app on par with other all-in-one camera apps. You can read my review of the ProCamera version 3.0 update here. It’s an excellent photo app for getting the best shot in camera and it’s my go-to camera replacement app.
ProCamera works on any iPhone or iPod Touch 4th Gen running iOS 4.0 or newer. The latest version of the iOS is needed to take advantage of some of the app’s advanced features.
From the press release from ProCamera, here’s a new call for submissions.
The award-winning iPhone camera app ProCamera and iPhoneArt.com have just launched “ProCamera Contest: Unchartedâ€, an iPhone Photo competition.

While Hipstamatic was getting all the update news cycles last week, it wasn’t the only great iPhone photo app updated last week. The ProCamera 3.0.1 update has been released and features overall performance and stability improvements, as well as improvements to the new Studio module.
In my opinion, ProCamera has been the best camera replacement app for serious iPhoneography for a long time. It has an impressive tool set which focuses on getting the best picture. You can read our recent full review of ProCamera 3.0 here.

ProCamera
Version 3.0 Price: $2.99
Bottom Line: Still the best camera replacement app in the store — fast, powerful, stable — but the new Studio module is great in some ways, a little disappointing in others.
No doubt about it… ProCamera by daemgen.net is still the best camera replacement app in the App Store. Not only does it have every feature I look for in a camera replacement app, daemgen invented features I didn’t even know I needed before (okay, maybe not really, but the white balance lock feature is pretty nice!)
The new ProCamera 3.0 update is available now. The already awesome camera module is improved even further in this update with new features and performance enhancements. The new, highly-touted Studio feature, while nicely featured and very well-implemented, suffers from performance issues.
UPDATE: The camera module works flawlessly. It feels even faster and more responsive than before. After my initial issues with the crop module (which involved quitting the app and rebooting my iPhone twice to resolve), I’m unable to reproduce the cropping problems. If you experience them, I suggest you force-quit the app and reboot. It seems to have solved the issue for me.
If you don’t plan on using the new Studio module extensively, this is an awesome update. After testing this update further this morning, I still have some issues with the Studio module. Typing up my review now…. =M=
The ProCamera 3.0 update hit the Apple Store tonight. This is a huge update with many new features and enhancements, including enhancements to the interface and a huge upgrade to the studio module — the photo editing part — of the app.
I’ve had the app for about an hour now. In many ways, it’s an improvement over the previous version. But my first impressions of the new studio enhancements are that I’m not really impressed. The new effects compare favorably to the now-unavailable Camera+. I had some initial problems with the new crop module. It’ll be great when it works reliably. Overall, for me the studio module is slow and laggy in this update.
I’ve heaped high praise on ProCamera. The previous version was the best shooter in the App Store in my opinion. I don’t recommend updating right away, unless the new studio module additions aren’t really important for you. And then, I highly recommend that you don’t trash your previous version just yet.
Right now, I think Pro mode needs some testing. This update should be fine for everyday shooting.
I’ll have a better rundown of this new ProCamera update later today.
Anyone else having the same issues with the ProCamera 3.0 update? Let us know how it’s going for you in the comments below.
Apple’s Camera app is fast and easy to use. The latest version of Camera has an excellent zoom and HDR in addition to the geo-tagging it’s had for a while. With the improvements in the iOS 4 camera, there are fewer and fewer compelling reasons to purchase and use a camera replacement app. By camera replacement app, I don’t mean a camera app that applies specialized filters. I mean a camera app with additional, specialized tools and features that give you greater options than the stock Camera when capturing your photos.
ColorRight for iPhone is on sale now for a limited time for $0.99. It normally goes for $4.99 – that’s 80% off. It claims to be a custom white balance solution for iPhone, which would be cool, but in most instances it didn’t really work well for me without the additional $39 add-on iBal filter. ProCamera’s white balance lock works much better for me. For a buck, though, ColorRight might be worth a look for future updates.
