Pudding Camera 2.0 Update Is Out. New English Version.

Pudding Camera is one of the most popular free apps on the iPhone. Last year, it made our list of the “The Ten Best FREE iPhone Photo Apps.” and will still be on there when we update the list this year. It’s a quirky, fun toy camera app.

The Ten Best FREE iPhone Photo Apps

Best Free iPhone iPod Touch photo apps

Over a year ago, I wrote two stories about The Best Free iPhoneography Apps: Camera Replacements and Image Editors. Since those two stories were first posted, a lot has changed in iPhonegraphy. The iPhone is now on iOS 4.2 (soon to be iOS 4.3). Two versions of the iPhone 4 have been released and these devices have much greater resolution and a much better camera than those of a year ago. The iPod Touch 4th Generation now comes with a camera. Several of the apps originally listed are no longer available or break in the latest versions of the iOS.

Currently, many free versions of the apps are try-before-you-buy versions of their commercial siblings. Many are very feature limited or save at unusably low resolutions.

However, there are still some great free photo apps in the App Store. Some of these apps are ad-supported. Some save in usable but not full resolution. None of these apps add an obstructing watermark. All of these apps are very usable and are normally free. Apps whose price is temporarily reduced to free are not included here.

Pudding Camera
Version 1.1
Price: FREE

Rating 3 stars

Bottom Line: It’s got great functionality, usable resolution and it’s free with no ads. It’s not perfect, but it’s very good for what it is.

An app that I’ve been seeing more of in Flickr groups is a free toy camera app called Pudding Camera. It’s from the small developer KTH. While you can search for it in the App Store using “pudding camera”, the name of the app is in Korean, as is much of the App Store description and much of the app itself.

Pudding Camera is a hidden gem in the App Store. It’s not perfect — it has some limitations, but it does a lot for a free app and it does it well, for free, and without ads. Our distilled and edited App Store description, as well as my distilled app review is after the jump.
