Review: ProCamera 2.7 – How They Made It Even Better

ProCamera
Version 2.7

Rating 4.5 stars

Bottom Line: Highly recommended!

ProCamera 2.6

ProCamera

A while back, I promised a full review of a previous update of ProCamera. I’m glad I waited until now.

In my idea box of articles I want to write is one for a “FrankenCam” app. For a long time, all of the features that I wanted in a camera app were spread out across several camera apps. I wanted to write an article — more like a wish list to developers — of the features that I wanted in one camera app.

I no longer need to write that article. The new 2.7 update of ProCamera by daemgen.net now includes every feature that I want that’s allowed by Apple in an iPhone camera app… and a whole lot more.

Review: Snapture for iPhone hits Version 2.0 again

Snapture
Version 2.0

Bottom Line: Recommend!

Long before the App Store, Snapture by SnaptureLabs was the premier camera app for jailbroken iPhones. Even back then, Snapture had features that camera apps in The Store are only now catching up to. Of course, being free at the time of the constraints of Apple’s approved APIs probably helped. My friends were jealous of the true digital zoom and the level guide that I was able to use in my camera.

Review: Camera Genius 1.7 Update

Camera Genius
Version 1.7

Bottom Line: Essential!

It’s been a while since I reviewed Camera Genius by CodeGoo. Since then, it is on its third big revision and I thought this would be a good opportunity to revisit my review.

Camera Genius 1.7 is the best camera replacement app available in the App Store. It adds great functionality and features to the iPhone’s camera, especially if you have an older 3G or 2G iPhone. It’s powerful yet easy to use. It works on all iPhone models and supports auto-focus on the 3GS. Importantly, all the features in Camera Genius work as advertised.

Review: HD Camera for iPhone

HD Camera

HD Camera

HD Camera
Version 1.0

Bottom Line: Avoid

HD Camera by OutmanTech (no website) is yet another “zoom” app. This one offers marginally better results than the in-camera cropping that most “zoom” apps deliver.

The app functions as a camera. The zoom is set using an onscreen slider, rather than pinch-and-zoom. I prefer this method of setting your zoom level and wish more apps offered this as an option.

One of the lucky seats. The very back of the train. These are often taken. You’re facing backwards as you pull out of the station. It’s disorienting because you feel like physically your body wants to move the other direction, but visually you know you’re being pulled (or pushed) the right way. I love to photograph The L and this is one of my favorite images.
