Lomora 2 is the latest version of the LOMO app from Marvin Lee. It replicates analog cross-processing to apply colorful and vivid LOMO effects to photographs. This new version 2 is an improvement over previous versions, but it’s still a little pricey when compared to other, more-versatile LOMO-style apps. While this new version is moving the app in the right direction, there’s still lots of room for improvement.

I love Chicago. There’s The Cubs, Giordano’s Famous Chicago Style Pizza (make mine pepperoni with extra cheese, please), and now the Chicago office of Synthetic Infatuation, the creators of the iPhone apps Hipstamatic and SwankoLab.

Friday, April 9, Lucas Buick and Ryan Dorshorst, the driving forces behind Synthetic, invited the world to the new office for the Hipstamatic Print Show to preview an upcoming feature of the app — the ability to purchase photographic prints of your images from within Hipstamatic — and to get feedback on various trim sizes.

I was going to be in Chicago anyway for the weekend, so I took them up on their invitation.

SwankoLab, the new photo app from the creators of Hipstamatic, is on sale this weekend only for $0.99. The app normally sells for $1.99.

SwankoLab is a virtual darkroom for your iPhone, complete with excellent animation. It creates excellent analog film styled effects. Filters are applied by mixing “chemicals” and then watching your prints develop in the soup. SwankoLab differs from Hipstamatic in that you can apply effects to any image from your photo library.

SwankoLab looks to be another big app from Synthetic Infatuation. There is rarely a sale on their apps, so grab SwankoLab for 50% off now! The sale is good through April 11, 2010.

The Darkroom of Yesterday, Today

Synthetic Infatuation, the makers of the extremely popular Hipstamatic app, have announced that their next iPhone app, SwankoLab, is set to be released in early April barring any unexpected delays in testing or the approval process.

We don’t have much information on the new app yet. There’s a new SwankoLab website with a few details and sample images.
