iPhone Photo App AnalogColor Gets Better in New Update

A couple of weeks ago, I reviewed new iPhone photo app AnalogColor. The app has a new update that addresses a couple of the issues I had with the 1.0 release. The new 1.1 update makes it a better app — definitely more usable for iPhoneographers — and also indicates that the developer will be pushing out more of these incremental updates which address user requests.

Photogene2 for iPhone Update: We Check Out the New Clarity Tool

photogene2 for iPhoneThe lineage of Photogene2 is one of the oldest photo apps on the iPhone. Photogene was probably one of the first apps many early iPhoneographers had in their camera bag.

Photogene2, the app’s successor, recently received a big update with several new features, including several new tools and the ability to order photo products in-app.

One of the more compelling features for me is the new “Clarity” tool, made popular by all-in-one camera app Camera+. I thought I’d compare the two side by side. See how Photogene2 fared after the jump.

App Update: Hipstamatic 235 Adds Tap-to-Focus and Favorites, Fixes Bugs

Hipstamatic 235 iPhoneHipstamatic’s 235 update hit the App Store this afternoon and they delivered on not one but two highly sought after features: tap-to-focus (only in the zoomed-in view) and the ability to save fave combos of lens/film/flash.

With the update you’ll note that the zoomed-in (aka fullscreen) view now features a textured overlay reminiscent of looking through a dirty plastic lens. Don’t worry, this won’t show up on your photos. When you tap and hold on a spot to focus the overlay rotates, simulating the experience of manually focusing through a physical lens. Traditionalist fans argued against the idea of selective focus, pointing out it wasn’t available in the original Hipstamatic. But Synthetic’s implementation feels in line with the spirit of the plastic Hipstamatic, if not the real limitations.

Adding a favorite combination is as simple as tapping the little star underneath the viewfinder while using the setup you want to preserve. Accessing stored faves is done through the same star icon, which allows you to scroll between visual representations of your various setups.

Resize-Photo 2.0 Update Breaks the App

resize-photo, iphone

Resize-Photo by iLegendSoft is an image interpolation tool that changes the image size on your iPhone. If you subscribe to a keep-it-all-on-your-iPhone line of thought on iPhoneography, apps like Resize-Photo eliminate the need to enlarge your images on a computer using Photoshop.

I can’t believe how bad the new 2.0 update to Resize-Photo is. This app used to be so good, MacWorld used it as part of its September 2010 print cover shoot with an iPhone 4.

The new 2.0 update breaks the app pretty badly. If you have Resize-Photo, don’t upgrade. If you’re looking at buying the app, hold off until it’s working correctly again.

mil colour, the mill, iphone, ipad

mill colour for iPhone iPadFor light and color moves, few apps came close to the precision of the classic Mill Colour. The app languished at 2 MP support for years without being updated to support the higher resolutions of even the venerable iPhone 3G.

The version 1.2 update has just been released. Mill Colour is back, still free, and is now updated to support the latest devices.

Percolator 2.0 Update Now Brewing in the App Store

Percolator 2.0 for iPhone ipad

percolator for iPhonePercolator is the Retro, coffee-inspired, modernist photo app that adds colorful, unique, geometric effects to your photos. I reviewed the original release here. I loved it then and subsequent releases have improved the app signficantly.

Percolator 2.0 has been “brewing” for a while. It’s the biggest update yet to the app. The update includes new “brews”, new controls, and some spiffy new animation. It’s a great, fun update packed with new features, but still retains the ease of use that made the previous versions great to work in.
