Pudding Camera is one of the most popular free apps on the iPhone. Last year, it made our list of the “The Ten Best FREE iPhone Photo Apps.” and will still be on there when we update the list this year. It’s a quirky, fun toy camera app.
The new 2.0.0 update is out. Among other changes in the update, Pudding Camera just got a little less quirky. Click past the jump to find out why. >>>
QuickPix by Two Teeth Technologies is designed for speed and simplicity, but still has plenty of advanced features to make it a good choice as a camera replacement. It’s one of the fastest, full-resolution camera replacements available and it has the best full-resolution burst shooting I’ve found in an iPhone camera app.
QuickPix has a new update to be released soon. We’ve got a preview of some of the new features. We’ve also got a few free promo codes to give away. Find out how you could a free copy of QuickPix after the jump.
Instagram 2.1 was just released today. After a slew of minor updates, this new update adds a few great new features to this popular app. In this update, Instagram gets Lux, its version of “Clarity.” There’s also a new filter in here. Oh, and the interface gets prettified.
iPhone image editing app Filterstorm is already one of the most powerful photo apps in the App Store. One of the things that I like about the app is how its interface was redesigned to take advantage of the iPhone’s limited screen real estate. Although there have been a number of other image editing apps released or improved, I still think that Filterstorm sets the standard and redefines how image editing apps should work on the iOS platform. You can read my full review of Filterstorm 3 here.
Filterstorm 4.1 was recently released. Although this is a .1 version update, it adds some powerful new tools to the app, as well as new social network sharing.
A couple of weeks ago, I reviewed new iPhone photo app AnalogColor. The app has a new update that addresses a couple of the issues I had with the 1.0 release. The new 1.1 update makes it a better app — definitely more usable for iPhoneographers — and also indicates that the developer will be pushing out more of these incremental updates which address user requests.
The lineage of Photogene2 is one of the oldest photo apps on the iPhone. Photogene was probably one of the first apps many early iPhoneographers had in their camera bag.
Photogene2, the app’s successor, recently received a big update with several new features, including several new tools and the ability to order photo products in-app.
One of the more compelling features for me is the new “Clarity” tool, made popular by all-in-one camera app Camera+. I thought I’d compare the two side by side. See how Photogene2 fared after the jump.
Hipstamatic’s 235 update hit the App Store this afternoon and they delivered on not one but two highly sought after features: tap-to-focus (only in the zoomed-in view) and the ability to save fave combos of lens/film/flash.
With the update you’ll note that the zoomed-in (aka fullscreen) view now features a textured overlay reminiscent of looking through a dirty plastic lens. Don’t worry, this won’t show up on your photos. When you tap and hold on a spot to focus the overlay rotates, simulating the experience of manually focusing through a physical lens. Traditionalist fans argued against the idea of selective focus, pointing out it wasn’t available in the original Hipstamatic. But Synthetic’s implementation feels in line with the spirit of the plastic Hipstamatic, if not the real limitations.
Adding a favorite combination is as simple as tapping the little star underneath the viewfinder while using the setup you want to preserve. Accessing stored faves is done through the same star icon, which allows you to scroll between visual representations of your various setups.
One of the earliest and one of the premier fauxlaroid apps in the App Store is misskiwi’s ClassicINSTA, part of their ClassicCAMERA series which also include the excellent ClassicTOY, ClassicPAN, and Squara apps.
The ClassicINSTA 7.0.0 update was just released. In it, the app gets a makeover and a few new features. I’ll walk you through them after the jump. >>>
As the App Store continues to return to normal after the holiday break, there has been a recent flurry of photo app updates lately. Here are some of the more notable updates. Among the dozens of photo apps updated recently are LensLight, LensFlare, Instant110, Noise Master, and Harris Camera.
We’ve also got five copies of LensFlare to give away. Find out how you could win one after the jump. >>>
Squaready is the excellent free, easy-to-use app to easily make square crops and prep your photos for Instagram and other apps. It also adds a more attractive white border around the edge of an image so your portrait and landscape images view better when they show up in your Instagram photostream. I’ve previously reviewed the app here.
The app has finally been updated to support the full 2448×2448 pixel square resolution of iPhone 4S photos. Click past the jump for more on this update. >>>
