FiLMiC Pro by Cinegenix is billed as “THE Filmmaker’s App.” It adds features specifically for videographers which improve the video production experience on the iPhone. FiLMiC Pro is a full-featured video camera designed with the videographer in mind. There’s everything you could want in here to shoot some pretty serious raw video. It’s a spiffy video app that I’ve reviewed previously. I liked it a lot and it’s also averaging over four stars in the App Store user reviews.

It normally sells for $2.99. It’s on sale this weekend for only $0.99. This is a limited time sale for this excellent full-featured, video recording app.

Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi, and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G. Requires iOS 4.1 or later.

We usually don’t cover iPhone video apps here on Life In LoFi, but Cinegenix have just released a pretty cool new camera app that I’m pretty excited about. It’s a video app that brings professional features to iPhone video.

I’m huge geek. I cut my cinematic teeth on Super 8 when I was a kid. I love Star Trek. Steven Spielberg’s best films are Jurassic Park and before. And the last episode of LOST pushed all the right buttons for me. There’s a connection here and that’s J.J. Abrams. And now, his production company, Bad Robot, along with QMx have created an iPhone app. And like everything else J.J. has touched lately, it pretty much rocks.

Super 8, the official iPhone app of the upcoming Super 8 blockbuster, is in the App Store now. It’s FREE for a limited time. That’s a steal. This app is awesome. Grab it now.

We recently reviewed the free app Camera Plus by Global Delight and named it as one of the best free iPhone camera replacement apps. Hopefully, you like the free app so much, you buy Camera Plus Pro with several additional features. If you’ve been on the fence about buying the app, consider that one very cool new feature in the next major upgrade is video for all iPhones, including older ones. And from a sample clip released this week, it looks like the quality of that video is pretty decent for a phone cam.

Here’s a clip from Global Delight’s YouTube Channel, taken recently, showing the video capabilities of the beta:

As the clip shows, the video is smooth and the frame rate seems better than most of the 3rd-party video recording apps currently available. It appears to offer those with older iPhones a superior alternative if they want to record video on those devices. Glyn Evans on iPhoneography.com recently wrote an excellent article, “Shooting Video on the iPhone 2G/3G.” In it, he notes that nearly all of the currently available video recorders for older, non-3GS iPhones record at 15 frames-per-second or lower, which means that the picture will look choppy when played back. It looks to me like Camera Plus Pro 2.0 will have video of at least that, possibly higher. To my eye, the playback of the beta clip was smoother than any of the other alternatives currently available.
