“Cabazon”

Cabazon, California, November 2002
Another pre-iPhone image shot in LoFi with my old Panasonic Lumix camera, color worked in Photoshop

Cabazon, to me, is a lonely town between Banning and Palm Springs on US Interstate 10. Its famous for two life size dinosaurs near the gas station/diner — and probably not much else. The day I took this picture, a woman tried to sell me hand made silver and turquoise jewelry while her children played nearby. A few hundred feet away, the highway was alive with cars and trucks speeding to their destinations. Off in a far corner of a dirt parking lot, I saw this old RV with an old truck in tow. They were parked. I couldn’t help but wonder what their story was. Miles of desert as a backdrop offered a lonely setting to the story — whatever it was and wherever they were off to.
