Ever heard of the Sprocket Rocket? It’s a sweet little panoramic 35mm camera from Lomography.com that features a super-wide panoramic lens and, of course, sprockets! It’s a LOMO effect that has previously been unavailable on iPhone… until now.
The ClassicPAN 5.1.0 update from misskiwi has just been released. It contains two new films and a new lens — the FrameRocket. The Sprocket Rocket-style effect is now available for iPhone.
The aspect ratio of a Sprocket Rocket frame is about 2.20:1. Photo apps that add 35mm film sprockets to an iPhone photo are expecting the normal aspect ratio of an iPhone frame which is 4:3 — considerably narrower. The resulting effect has distorted sprockets and frame edges.
ClassicPAN accurately applies the 35mm frame edge, including sprockets and other film markings, to its 2.25:1 aspect ratio — almost a perfect match! Very cool! It’s the only photo app available that can recreate this effect. Given ClassicPAN’s single-shot, wide aspect ratio, it’s the perfect app for this.
This update also features two new films from the ClassicCAMERA collection — Sodachrome and the excellent Scarlet.
ClassicPAN is an excellent single-shot panoramic photo app with great looking “film stocks” and a number of other options. It now has 6 “lenses” and 16 “films”. The addition of the new, unique FrameRocket lens makes ClassicPAN an essential app for toy camera lovers and LOMO app afficionados in particular.
ClassicPAN is $1.99 in the App Store and comes fully loaded with films and lenses. Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi, and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G. Requires iOS 4.1 or later.
