“To tire of London is to tire of life” and there’s always cool things happening in this exciting city. Right now, King & McGaw are hosting “The Art of the Selfie”, a pop up exhibition and interactive space that is open in in the tunnels of Old Street Station.
Long before iPhones, Instagram and Facebook, people have been creating self-portraits or selfies for centuries. The media may change throughout the years, but the art reflects the need for us to look at ourself and to share how we want to present ourselves to others. The exhibition explores the selfie throughout the years, featuring hand-picked works from Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo and Egon Schiele, through to contemporary artists including Sunil Pawar and Hormazd Narielwalla.
#ArtoftheSelfie also features curated events and a selfie competition where photographers can Tweet or Instagram arty selfies with the hashtag #artoftheselfie to be part of the exhibition. . The best photo will receive £500 (that’s about $750 USD) and a special edition printed and framed for free.
All the info, including a calendar of events, is on the gallery’s website here. The featured image is very cool but may give you a headache. The exhibition runs through Saturday, November 14, 2015.
